Thirumullavaram was closely connected to the early origins of Christianity on the Quilon coast. It was called “Trivalar” by the Portuguese and was a center of Franciscan missionaries way back in 1577 they ministered the parishes up to Kayamkulam. The Portuguese built the present church in 1780. In the same year, it was erected as a parish. In 1809 during the persecution unleashed by Velu Thampi Dalava, the Christians left the place before the invaders could reach Thirumulavaram.
As the church was left with no flock, it was annexed to Vaddy. Later Christians from other places migrated to Thirumulavaram and the Church activities were restored. For a long period, it was under the care of the Vicar of Vaddy and the Vicars of Vaddy were administering the liturgical missions.
In 1960 the Thirumullawaram Parish was proclaimed independent and Rev Fr John Netto had the honor of being the first Parish Priest. As the Christian community flocked to Thirumullawaram and then the church was extended in 1976 and 1996 and continues to be in the same condition even now.
John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
